QEGS Brooklands Building

Lea Hough has successfully overseen the full refurbishment of The Brooklands Building at QEGS Academy in Blackburn. The comprehensive refurbishment of the property was completed on time and within budget. The project aimed to transform the existing building into a modern and functional space for the school’s music department.

The building had formerly been a nursing home and therefore, the project was a full redevelopment from top to bottom that had to be carefully designed, planned and executed. The project took 5 months and involved substantial investment. The work on site has been very successful and the result is a transformation of the Brooklands Building into a state-of-the-art facility, benefiting both the students and staff at QEGS.

The primary objective of the project was to provide a dedicated space for the music department, allowing students to learn, practice, and perform in a modern environment that fosters creativity and collaboration. The refurbishment process involved significant remodelling to create classrooms, toilet areas, a kitchen and storage space.

In terms of the remodelling, careful consideration was taken to optimise the layout and maximize the use of the available space. The new classrooms are spacious, equipped with modern furniture, and equipped with the latest technology to enhance teaching and learning. The office space is designed to accommodate administrative staff and provide a quiet space for administrative tasks.

The project also included bringing the disused second floor back into use, and the basement was also damp-proofed to be used a plant room and storage.

The Brooklands Building is now occupied by the school’s music department, providing a dedicated space for music lessons, rehearsals, and performances. The refurbishment has transformed the building into a vibrant and dynamic learning environment, supporting the school’s commitment to fostering creativity and excellence in music education.
